The Kolden Report: North, to the hills! February 23rd, 2014

Hello, kids!

Mark your calendars, an art walk is planned for March 7th in Circle, from 4-7 pm.  My work will be featured at Prairie Pickin's and my sister Cindy will be in attendance so come out, eat, drink and be merry!  Most businesses in downtown Circle will feature an artist and the new restaurant and pub is open.    Cindy will be giving away one of my framed pieces and anyone who stops by can sign up to win.  It should be a HOT time in the old town!

A few months ago, we spent some time in the hills up north.  Enjoy!

The Kolden Report: Bone Trail Bliss, Part two. February 11, 2014

Hello, kids!

My parents are selling their park model in Quartzsite, Arizona.  Here are the particulars:

10x50', completely furnished.
Washer, dryer, clothesline, microwave, dishwasher, stove, oven, three refrigerators.
One bedroom, one bath.
2 covered parking spots.
2 outdoor storage units.
Large covered, screened porch.
Air conditioned.
Hallway skylight.

Asking price, $10,000 OBO.  Please call Dewey or JoAnn at 928-927-5301, for more information.

Now, back to the continuing saga of our fall trip along the lake.

Soon to see some sun!

Glorious, glorious morning!

Stormy skies.

Cloud clings.

Luscious lichen.

Storm's coming in and hunters are boating out!  Hearty souls.

There's SNOW in them thar' clouds.

Only in Montana.  (Most would leave in the face of a storm, not arrive.)

Quiet beauty.

Hunting camps require a few necessities.

Anyone know who this is?   (Toilet paper, propane, generator,  shovel, axe, beer, spuds, sleeping bag in a waterproof wrapper - these are serious campers.   And why not?  If you are going to camp in Montana in the late fall, do it right!)

And in the morning, where there was once one tent, there are now two!

Not only stormy but cold.  Creeks are frozen over.

And the geese come in to feed.

Goodnight Sun!

Good morning, sky!

More to come....

The Kolden Report: Bone Trail Bliss, February 6, 2014

Hello, kids!

I had the starch taken out of me last week when I had my left shoulder repaired.  I'm looking forward to the other side of healing.  More on this in a future report.  For you squeamish sorts, I'll start with a warning.

Next, if you are tired of annoying phone calls from solicitors at your home, I have the solution.  Simply say:  Please remove me from your call list, I do not wish to receive calls.  Apparently there is a federal law preventing callers from saying anything other than "Yes, Ma'am".    I feel that since I'm paying for the telephone service, I'll decide who will be allowed to call me!

When I last left you, we were touring along the lake.  Back to that trip....

When syrup came in a gallon can.

Lake shore layers.  (Love the red brush and blue water next to one another.)

Double vision.

The BIG picture.  (For those of you unfamiliar with Fort Peck Lake, remember this is just one TINY bay on a very large lake.)

Road MUCH less traveled.  (Not a good place to breakdown, be stuck in the mud, etc).

Lesser of two evils.  (Typically, if I can walk across without sinking in, Whitey can make it too.  Not this time.  We got to test the winch in black, sticky, stinky, slimy creek mud.  Our tracks in the grass on the right.  Oddly, it was the one trip where the axe didn't make it into our kit.  Having spied a loose fence post a mile or so back, I took off hiking.  Fortunately, we were able to drive our anchor in with it and get ourselves out.  Lesson learned. Or maybe two.)

Fuzzy wuzzy.

Yucca forest.

Yes, we were a VERY long way from NOWHERE.

Later, we arrived Bone trail campground/boat ramp to find several hearty Elk hunters out on the water.

Slowly setting sun paints picture pink.

Golden glow.  (Albeit a bit abstract.)

Drive by.

That AHHHHHHHHH purely peaceful moment my soul craves.    One subscriber described her time at the lake as "soul candy".  Well put, Char!

Hunters paradise.  (AKA:  All the comforts of home.)

"I see...a bad moon arising.'" - Creedence Clearwater Revival

"Starry, starry night." - Don McLean

The big picture.  (Star trails due to timed exposure.)

Stay tuned, more to come.  Remember I'm working with" half as much" so it is taking me "twice as long"!
